Daniel Kadvany | Freelance Product and Growth Marketing Consultant
Where is home these days?
I moved from San Francisco to Kauai in 2020 and work from home here. I'm lucky enough to have a home office with big monitors and split keyboard (highly recommended for anyone dealing with carpal tunnel!), so I rarely work anywhere else.
Tell us about your professional background and area(s) of expertise.
I worked as a product marketer at several startups (one acquired by Visa) before setting out on my own as a freelancer. Startup experience was invaluable for my future freelance career—it taught me to be comfortable learning on the fly and starting projects from scratch. Right now I'm working with a well-known food delivery app managing their customer referral program.
What excites you about growth marketing?
From my own professional satisfaction perspective, growth marketing is incredibly stimulating. It's a discipline that, to do well, requires a feedback loop between data analysis, creative execution, and network/platform domain expertise—doing all of these things means I'm never bored. It's also a major driver of a client's business objectives and it's always exciting (and sometimes stressful) to be responsible for contributing to those goals.
What has the structure/flexibility of Right Side Up’s model allowed you to do outside of work?
The ability to work on my own terms (and schedule) as a freelancer is truly life changing for me—I'm a lifelong surfer and the best time to surf rarely aligns with the time outside of a traditional 9–5 schedule. However, before RSU I spent a lot of unpaid time sourcing business, tracking down invoices, building relationships, etc. Now, RSU consistently connects me with great clients so I can just focus on the work.
Now let’s get to the fun stuff…
What’s a podcast that you’re loving right now?
I'm really loving Offline with Jon Favreau—as a tech worker who spends so much time on the computer it's great to get perspective on some of the ways the internet has shaped our world.
What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
Tahiti! Even coming from Hawaii it's wildly beautiful, the snorkeling/diving is amazing, and the mix of French and Polynesian culture is super interesting. Plus the food is incredible—baguettes and cheese for breakfast and raw fish for lunch/dinner!
