The Right Side Up Talent Spotlight series profiles some of our full-time employees and growth marketing consultants. We chatted with them to learn about their incredible professional experiences, expert marketing insights, and how they’re balancing work and life.
Faisal Al-Khalidi | Project Strategy
Faisal Al-Khalidi is a growth marketer who specializes in the intersection of marketing, data, product, and engineering. He’s worked with tech startups and high-growth D2C companies like Gainful, DoorDash, and Soma Water (acquired by Full Circle Brands). Faisal is part of the project strategy team at Right Side Up (RSU).
What does your role entail at Right Side Up?
I’m on the project strategy team and I work with clients to find solutions to their marketing needs by matching them with our talent collective. In my role, I start by talking to companies that need help with marketing in some capacity to understand their business. Then I diagnose the client's problems and figure out the right strategy and people resources to unlock their next stage of growth.
This is the first time I haven’t been in-house. I’ve always been the one doing the legwork, but now that I’m purely on the advisory side I get to help multiple well-known, high-growth companies on a regular basis. In a given week, I usually talk to at least five different interesting companies.
It's definitely a unique opportunity to peek into these big companies and understand how their marketing operations are running. It’s fascinating working with so many brands on high-level strategy solutions all at the same time because it allows me to learn across companies at a high frequency. I often find that solutions for one company inspire solutions for another.
What were you up to before joining Right Side Up?
I started off working in growth marketing for tech startups in the Bay Area and transitioned to growth for D2C health and wellness companies for the last three years.
Before joining RSU I was leading the growth marketing team for Gainful, a supplement subscription company. With Gainful, I got to have my hands in many types of marketing, like online, performance, and lifecycle marketing. During my time there, the brand went from seed stage to seeing significant revenue growth, and I built the marketing team that supported it all.
I also spent time with CarDash (acquired by RepairSmith), where I built a cross-functional growth team to scale user acquisition and retention. And prior to that I was in growth roles at DoorDash, Soma Water, and PayFort.
How does Right Side Up’s fully remote, flexible work environment shape your lifestyle?
I’m currently living a nomadic lifestyle, traveling between Jordan, New York, and Mexico. I like to keep my work environment simple and grab whatever desk I can get access to with my laptop.
For the past year before joining RSU, I was working mostly remotely but still based in New York City. Since I started here, I’ve had the opportunity to work from different places. It's been great having the flexibility of working from anywhere with a flexible schedule. Right now I’m in Jordan, where I grew up and where my parents still live, then I’m off to Mexico, and maybe eventually back to New York.
Do you have a favorite quote that guides your approach to life?
No matter where I am in the world, I like to get up early and start my day. My favorite quote is “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” said by Benjamin Franklin. I like that it’s really just about the importance of getting into building habits that set the foundation for your health, wealth, intelligence, and everything else. Anytime I focus on those foundational elements, I see the power of that quote in practice.
