The Right Side Up Talent Spotlight series profiles some of our full-time employees and growth marketing consultants. We chatted with them to learn about their incredible professional experiences, expert marketing insights, and how they’re balancing work and life.

Liz Wehden | Client Engagement

Liz Wehden is a seasoned digital marketing professional with expertise in strategy, account management, media sales, and operations across online and mobile platforms for publishers, agencies, and technology companies like Publicis Media, WildTangent, and Razorfish. She is part of the client engagement team at Right Side Up (RSU).

What does your role entail at Right Side Up?

I joined the client engagement team about a month ago and I work to ensure our clients are satisfied with their level of service. I also advise clients on additional opportunities to grow their business with RSU’s support.

My interaction with clients starts after the project strategy team has officially launched an engagement. Then it’s up to my team to make sure the client is happy with their marketing support and seeing the results they want. It’s fun to get to know the clients and explore opportunities to expand our relationship, troubleshoot any issues, and basically find new ways to grow their business with our help.

Tell us what excites you about growth marketing.

I really like getting to know the early-stage companies and seeing how we can help grow their business with the help of our expert marketing talent.

A lot of the digital marketing areas that we work in used to be super niche and now every company needs to be operating in that space. Growth marketing has become the standard for unlocking how to use digital channels to get a product to market successfully and then sustain that growth as the company matures.

What led you to join Right Side Up?

Most of my career has been spent in account management at large agencies, leading digital marketing engagements for enterprise companies. When I was looking to change my job I focused on companies that wanted a really strong strategy person and also a great hands-on digital marketer—ideally I wanted to find something that offered a bit of both functions.

I came across Right Side Up and it was the perfect mix of finding solutions for small companies that didn’t involve them making a heavy investment all the way up to the actual strategy. I loved the idea that I could play a role in matching the right resources to the right company.

Although I’ve only been here for a short time, I’m so happy to be working with such a great group of people. I like that everyone shares a willingness to roll up their sleeves and do whatever’s necessary to get the job done. Everyone has an informal, laid-back attitude and we all work to foster an easygoing environment where people still work hard.

How has Right Side Up’s fully remote, flexible work environment helped your work-life balance?

I work from my home office in Seattle, WA and appreciate having a space with lots of natural light. It’s nice to be able to wave to my neighbors and their dogs as they’re out walking through our neighborhood.

Prior to joining Right Side Up I had been in an office setting for my whole career, so I’m still figuring out what I can do with this flexible schedule. Not having a commute means I can spend more quality time with my family in a less hectic, frenzied way. We’re no longer constantly trying to get everyone out the door—the schedule and pace are so much less stressful.

It’s also great to have the flexibility to squeeze in exercise or time outside on an ad hoc basis, which wasn’t as easy in a structured office environment. For a while I thought I kind of missed the routine of going into an office, but now I don’t miss it that much at all.

As I settle into this flexible routine more, I’m looking forward to taking advantage of being location agnostic. If my kid has a week off from school or is on summer vacation it would be amazing to just head out and travel. It’s mind blowing to have so many possibilities that I didn’t have with a more structured work environment.

And now, let’s get to the fun stuff…

  • Since the start of the pandemic I’ve got really into biking and kayaking.
  • I’m a little late to the party, but I’ve finally jumped on the Ted Lasso bandwagon.
  • The most memorable places I’ve traveled include Namibia, India, and the UAE.
