Taylor Bittle | Amazon
Taylor Bittle is a growth marketer with a background in paid advertising with a focus on large ecommerce platforms. She’s worked with brands like Calvin Klein, Burberry, Hugo Boss fragrances, and CoverGirl. She is part of the Amazon team at Right Side Up (RSU).
Tell us about what you do at Right Side Up.
I started as a marketplace ads manager at RSU a little over a month ago. In my current role, I’m part of the marketplace team and I work across Amazon, Instacart, and Walmart. I focus on the ads portion of the business to drive growth and success for our clients, largely in the CPG industry.
In the short time that I’ve been with RSU, I’ve already learned so much from the talented team here. Each person has a different background and possesses different skill sets. I’m definitely looking forward to the continued growth of the team and company.
What were you doing before Right Side Up?
I started my career in the paid advertising industry at a UK-based agency working primarily on managing ads via Google and Bing for U.S. clients, and Yahoo! Japan, Naver, Yandex, and Baidu for international clients. Toward the end of my time with this agency, I began learning about Amazon advertising for some smaller clients.
I then made the switch to a larger agency to focus on Amazon advertising for several large accounts in the beauty industry, including Calvin Klein, Burberry, and Hugo Boss fragrances. I had the opportunity to execute full-funnel tactics to support the relaunch of classic Calvin Klein fragrances on Amazon and bring new users into the brand while driving conversions. With the massive growth of retail media networks in the past few years, I also had the opportunity to drive growth for CoverGirl with the launch of their new vegan cosmetics line across all major retailers.
Prior to my life in the marketing world, I had my sights set on becoming a marine biologist. That plan was thwarted by a scuba injury, but thankfully my understanding of data analysis and different types of data (which I learned from water testing in aquarium exhibits) was very transferable to marketing.
What excites you about growth marketing?
I love that growth marketing is constantly evolving and there are always new ways to engage audiences to drive growth. It allows us to work with companies of varying sizes to find the right tactics for our clients to drive and sustain growth. Over the past several years, the ecommerce marketplace has grown at an accelerated rate which makes this a very exciting space to be in because there are so many new opportunities and technologies to help our clients succeed.
What has Right Side Up’s flexible structure allowed you to do outside of work?
RSU’s flexible structure has allowed me to spend more time with my family, friends, and new puppy. I love to go to workout classes at Orangetheory with my sisters and the flexibility helps us to find classes that work for all our schedules. Traveling has also always been a passion of mine and being able to pick up my laptop and work from any location is something that I look forward to most with the flexibility of RSU. I’ve been swimming with sharks before, but I’d love to travel and be able to do that again soon.
And now, let’s get to the fun stuff…
- I wanted to be a marine biologist for as long as I can remember. I did multiple internships and apprenticeships at aquariums and I studied marine science in college. I studied at a shark research lab in the Bahamas for a month in college, where I studied alongside several scientists featured on Shark Week and swam with multiple species of sharks. After graduating, I worked in a contractor role as a fisheries observer for NOAA before working at the PPG Aquarium in Pittsburgh and the Miami Seaquarium. At both aquariums, I worked with a variety of animals with a focus on the care of the sharks, stingrays, penguins, eels, manatees, and sea turtles.
- I should be embarrassed about this, but my favorite show has always been Survivor. My family is obsessed and I have rewatched all the old seasons at least twice (I even have the first couple of seasons on DVD). My family has been trying to make me audition for the show for years and my sister and brother-in-law are currently writing an outline for my audition video.
- I’m obsessed with sharks. I used to be terrified of them, but it turned into a fascination as I began to learn more about them. I have swam with at least 10 different species of sharks and have a ‘shark-diving bucket list’ to swim with whale sharks, tiger sharks, and great white sharks. My favorite sharks are makos, and I want to someday get a puppy and name it Mako.
